About Us

It was meant to be…. My husband John works a full-time job and I was a Realtor, at the time. I was asked by the owners of a flower shop to help them sell their building in Downtown Howell. It was in 2008 when the economy was at a low point. I had it listed for 2 years and had 5 deals that fell through. When the last offer fell through I went home and told John that the buyers backed out at the last minute. We looked at each other and said maybe we should buy the building, so we did!  We opened our store in June of 2011.

Once we closed on the building we had to decide what we are going to do with it. We thought about it and since the economy was at a low point we wanted to do something to help Michigan people. So we decided to make it a Michigan store with a strong emphasis on locally made products. We felt Heart of Michigan was an appropriate name for our family run store.

We are constantly evolving and committed to bringing the best Michigan has to offer to our customers. Our store is located in historic Downtown Howell. We also have an online store that we run from the warehouse in the back of our store. We also have a kitchen right in our store where we make authentic U.P. pasties daily.

Cheers to Michigan!
